I provide counseling and psychotherapy for people experiencing a variety of “problems in living.” Psychotherapy can help you to reduce anxiety or overcome depression, resolve the effects of trauma, achieve goals, be more assertive, identify and maintain boundaries, and improve communication.
I also enjoy working with people who are learning to unfold their creativity, integrate spiritual practice with daily life, or just discover what within their own being is essential.
I provide integrative therapy in a Transpersonal context. My approach to therapy is individualized in order to address your specific needs; however, I think that responding in a way that allows you to feel heard and understood is the best first strategy.
Ultimately, I believe that psychological healing emerges from within you and is catalyzed by your own awareness. Beyond theory and technique, what the therapist has to contribute is his or her presence.
Integrative Psychotherapy
“You are more than the sum of your parts”
Rather than just being the result of “nature” or “nurture,” I assume that there is more to human being than the various aspects of the personality (thought, emotion, behavior, temperament, social roles, habits, learning style, etc.). Rather than seeing us as physical beings with (or without) spiritual lives, I sees us as spiritual beings with physical and social lives.
- I engage with you in the context of your lived experience, as you express it, rather than superimposing preconceived theoretical models. While theories, models, and techniques can be useful, I believe they are best employed in helping you clarify your own understandings and essential meanings.
- I see people as whole, and psychological experiences as one aspect of the whole person. Thoughts and feelings are best understood in the context of the entirety of one’s experience – spiritual, physical, social, familial, vocational, and environmental.
- I draw on a range of techniques and ways of responding to help you align with your goals. I do not see any one model as having all the answers, but believe that the most effective therapy integrates multiple theoretical perspectives.
- I believe that real, lasting growth depends on more than simply changing behavior, replacing obsolete beliefs, or improving ones’ mood. The deepest change involves a shift in level of experience, such that one is operating from one’s innate wisdom.
